Session: "SITES at Scale: A Policy Playbook for Governments and Institutions"
November 5, 2025, 11:45 AM-12:45 PM
Join for an exciting session where you can learn from some of the first institutions on the groundbreaking journey of adopting SITES into Policy. The City of Austin, Salt Lake City, and University of Texas are each applying SITES v2 across a portfolio of projects. Now is the time to share those lessons with others, accelerating SITES adoption and understanding by providing guidance and tools to bring hard-working, resilient, and biodiverse landscapes to your own communities, campuses, or institutions. In this hands-on session, we’ll dive into the process and share our “SITES as Policy Playbook” along with the toolkit developed to guide others through similar challenges. Whether you're already on the SITES path or just starting the conversation, we’ll show you how to overcome barriers, communicate value, and create meaningful change. We’ll start by defining what SITES as a policy really means, and why it’s a game-changer for sustainability at-scale. You’ll get a look at universal barriers we’ve uncovered and learn how to develop a workshop methodology that will help any organization identify key barriers. Next, we’ll explore how to make the business case for SITES. With concrete examples from our experience, you’ll learn how to show the financial value of SITES — from reducing operational costs to increasing resilience to natural hazards. It’s all about finding the right message for your stakeholders. Finally, we’ll get into the weeds with an interactive, group-based exercise where you’ll work through real-world tools for implementing SITES at a policy scale. By the end of the session, you’ll walk away with practical resources to take back to your organization and the confidence to get started.
